The Moscow City Court dismissed the appeal of Meta, which was declared extremist and banned in Russia, Interfax reported.

"The decision by the court of first instance shall be deemed legal and well-founded, and Meta’s representatives’ complaint shall be rejected," the judge proclaimed, reading out the ruling, after which the court's decision, according to procedural norms, entered into legal force.

Thus, the ban in Russia Meta, which owns the social networks Facebook and Instagram blocked in the country, comes into legal force.

Representatives of Meta insisted in court that the decision of the first instance should be immediately reversed and the proceedings should be terminated.

Representatives of Roskomnadzor and the Federal Security Service of Russia also took part in the court session. In their opinion, the activities of the extremist company Meta in Russia should be banned, they asked to leave the decision of the court of first instance in force.

In March, Moscow's Tverskoy Court, at the behest of a lawsuit by the Prosecutor General's Office, declared the social networks - Instagram and Facebook-owned by Meta Platforms, extremist and banned them across Russian territory.  According to the court's decision, Meta was banned from selling its products - social networks Facebook and Instagram - on the grounds of extremist activities.

At the same time, the court's decision does not apply to the activities of the messenger WhatsApp, also owned by Meta, as it does not carry out public dissemination of information.

Currently, access to Facebook and Instagram on the territory of  Russia is restricted.
