The creation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be an important reform in the security system of Armenia. Andranik Kocharyan, a member of the ruling majority "Civil Contract" Faction in the National Assembly (NA) and chair of the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security, said this in the NA on Tuesday—during the parliamentary hearings on the reestablishment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Armenia.

Kocharyan noted that the parliament will play an active role in implementing this process.

The MP expressed confidence that the establishment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will strengthen the security system of Armenia and ensure greater accountability in this domain.

"The establishment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is part of the reforms that are envisioned by the government's medium-term plan. The creation—and essentially, the reinstatement —of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will immediately resolve several issues. The clear functions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be defined, as well as a new personnel training system will be introduced. The Ministry of Internal Affairs will become a structure that will develop the policy of the domain. Parliamentary oversight will be ensured over that power structure. Thus, more transparent activity and accountability of the domain will be ensured. The reforms that will be implemented will increase the appeal of service in the structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Also, they will ensure the manageability of the country's internal security," Kocharyan assured.
