It is obvious that any public office holder should be accountable for his statements; moreover, in the case of the highest office holder, that bar is much higher. Aram Vardevanyan, a member of the opposition "Armenia" Faction in the National Assembly of Armenia, wrote this on Facebook—and with respect to PM Nikol Pashinyan’s phone talk Monday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"It has been publicly stated several times that the normalization of relations with Turkey cannot be considered in isolation from Turkey's role—based on the circumstances of the 44-day [Artsakh] war [in the fall of 2020].

Of course, let's recall the [previous] statements of Nikol Pashinyan himself:

‘Turkey has returned to the South Caucasus to continue the Armenian Genocide.’ 02.10.2020;

‘Terrorists imported from the Middle East are fighting on the side of Azerbaijan—under the patronage of Turkey.’ 02.10.2020;

‘And now Turkey does not resolve the Karabakh issue at all. Turkey is attempting to continue its policy of Armenian genocide because in the South Caucasus, Armenia and Armenians are the last obstacle on its road to expansion—to the north, to the east, and to the southeast.' 13.10.2020.

And now let's record no action, no consistency regarding the said, no change in Turkey's policy, the shameful declaration of Shushi, and Armenia's response: 11.07.2022: ‘The Prime Minister of Armenia congratulated the President of Turkey on the occasion of Kurban Bayram,’" Vardevanyan added.
