It is planned to form the National Guard in Armenia—and on the basis of the Police Troops and the State Security Service. Deputy chief of police Ara Fidanyan stated this Tuesday during the parliamentary hearings on the process toward the establishment of a Ministry of Internal Affairs in Armenia.

According to him, this National Guard will not have the status of the Internal Troops, and its activities will not be regulated by the law related to activities of the Armed Forces of Armenia.

"The creation of National Guard units is assumed also in some provinces of the country. They will be responsible for maintaining public order and public safety. In particular, we are talking about ensuring the security of various state agencies, organizations, important facilities, high-ranking officials, foreign delegations. The [National] Guards [of Armenia] will accompany the prisoners, participate in ensuring the legal regime in military and emergency situations, as well as in antiterrorist operations," Fidanyan explained.

At the same time, for the more appeal of the law enforcement service in Armenia, it is planned to increase the salaries of the law enforcement officers of the country.
