Germany will resume the requirement to wear masks in closed public places in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, but there will be no return to quarantine, school closures or curfews, Justice Minister Marco Buschmann said.

In an interview with the Morgen Post, Buschmann said that while the summer wave of COVID-19 is winding down, authorities are preparing for measures to combat the coronavirus in the fall and winter, which he will present to parliament for approval in September. One of the main mitigation measures will be the mandatory wearing of masks in closed public places.

He said the coalition agreed that isolation and school closures were no longer appropriate measures in the third year of the pandemic.
