We are strengthening our cooperation on international security issues and are making a significant contribution to the settlement of the Syrian conflict, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in Tehran at a meeting with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, the Kremlin press service reported.

"Our relations are really developing at a good pace. We can boast record numbers in terms of growth in trade turnover. We are strengthening our cooperation on international security issues and are making a significant contribution to resolving the Syrian conflict," the Russian president said.

In turn, the Iranian president noted the good experience with regard to the Syrian direction.

"I think our region has become safer from this experience, from our cooperation. Other countries only claim to be fighting terrorism, but our relations and our cooperation as far as fighting terrorism has proven that we can achieve the goals that we have set for ourselves. I think this is a very valuable good experience in terms of improving security in our region," Raisi said.

The Iranian president also expressed hope that Vladimir Putin's visit to Iran would be a turning point in terms of improving relations on regional as well as international agendas.
