Iran's spiritual leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei received Russian President Vladimir Putin, who arrived in Tehran on a visit, Press.tv reported.

Ayatollah Khamenei met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who arrived in Tehran earlier Tuesday to attend a trilateral summit with Iranian and Turkish presidents Ebrahim Raisi and Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the peace process in Syria.

Before Putin's meeting with Ayatollah Khamenei, the Iranian and Russian presidents discussed ways to boost mutual relations in various fields, including energy and transit, as well as trade exchanges, the media reported.

In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the meeting between the Russian president and Iran's spiritual leader, FAN reported.

"The conversation is going on, there was no open part," Peskov said, commenting on the meeting between Putin and Ali Khamenei.
