The president of Turkey said that he expects Russia and Iran to support a Turkish operation in Syria.
"We [i.e., Turkey] have decided to eliminate the harmful organizations in Syria that threaten our national security. We expect from Russia and Iran, as guarantors of the Astana process, that they will express support to Turkey," Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in Tehran.
In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin said—during his visit to Tehran—that it is necessary to put an end to terrorist groups operating in Syria once and for all.
