YEREVAN. – in total 8,465 crimes were registered in Armenia in the first half of 2011, which is by 7.3 percent more compared to the relevant period of 2010, Armenian Deputy-General Prosecutor Mnatsakan Sargsyan told at the expanded meeting of Board of Prosecutor General’s Office on Friday.

According to him, amid a general increase in the number of crimes, number of crimes against the person dropped by 114 making 1567 or 18.5% of all criminal cases.

Cases of intentional injury to health also reduced (from 645 to 629).

Number of homicides (from 21 to 28) and number of attempts of murder (from 9 to 20) increased.

Smuggling cases have decreased by 26 or 58.7%: 37 cases were registered in first half of 2011.
