YEREVAN. – The next round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Armenia and Uruguay took place Friday at the Ministry of Foreign Relations of Uruguay, the Armenian foreign ministry reports.

Within the framework of these consultations, a separate meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Paruyr Hovhannisyan, and the Minister of Foreign Relations of Uruguay, Francisco Bustillo.

Bilateral historical friendly relations between Armenia and Uruguay and their future development prospects were discussed.

Hovhannisyan informed about the Armenian side’s plan of opening a resident embassy of Armenia in Montevideo, thereby reciprocating the similar decision by the Uruguayan side, adopted in August 2021.

The parties also discussed cooperation within international organizations.

They reflected also on the urgent matters that are on the regional and international agenda. In this connection, Paruyr Hovhannisyan presented the current situation surrounding the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict, emphasizing the importance of the peaceful settlement process in order to establish stable peace in the South Caucasus.

After the consultations, the agreement "Between the Republic of Armenia and the Oriental Republic of Uruguay on the implementation of paid activities by the family members of the diplomatic, consular, administrative, and technical staff of the diplomatic missions and consular institutions" was signed by Paruyr Hovhannisyan and Francisco Bustillo.

On the same day, the deputy FM of Armenia was received by Beatriz Argimon, Vice President of Uruguay and President of the Senate. They discussed development of Armenian-Uruguayan relations.

Also, the visiting Armenian delegation was received by the President of the Chamber of Representatives of Uruguay, Ope Pasquet. They conferred about the development of Armenian-Uruguayan interparliamentary relations. These matters were discussed also at the meeting held with the members of the Committee on Foreign Relations and the Friendship Group with Armenia of the Uruguayan Parliament.

During the visit to Uruguay, the Armenian delegation, led by deputy FM Paruyr Hovhannisyan, met also with representatives of the Uruguayan Armenian community.
