Poland's Justice Minister has lashed out at the European Union, accusing it of "stealing" billions from EU funds amid escalating confrontation between Brussels and Warsaw over funding, reports Bloomberg.

Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, who heads the Eurosceptic party in the Polish nationalist coalition, accused European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen of deceiving the Polish government.

The harsh comments came amid growing doubts from Poland's ruling Law and Justice party that the funds would be paid.  The European Commission has set a condition for providing funding in the form of reforms to Poland's judicial system. According to von der Leyen, the steps the Polish government has taken to address the problem are not sufficient.

Poland is being "robbed", and German politicians led by von der Leyen "played a leading role in this robbery," Ziobro told reporters. Identifying Germany with the EU as a whole, he called on the government to stop giving in to Brussels' and Berlin's demands.
