French President Emmanuel Macron, before holding his first council of ministers, made a grim prognosis about the environmental and resource crisis, declaring the "end of abundance" and the end of carefree life, Le Figaro writes.

"What we are currently living through is a kind of major tipping point or a great upheaval … we are living the end of what could have seemed an era of abundance … the end of the abundance of products of technologies that seemed always available … the end of the abundance of land and materials including water,” he nited, saying he was ready to take action to reverse all the consequences.

Emmanuel Macron also announced a major environmental planning effort planned for the coming weeks under the auspices of French Prime Minister Elisabeth Bourne.

Accordung to Macron, now is the time to make clear and decisive choices to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the season we have just experienced, to redouble the efforts we have been able to make, and to transform the country even faster.

The French president thanked the ministers who have been on the front lines, particularly on the interior and health, as well as firefighters, elected representatives and all public servants who have had to deal both with the major fires we have experienced this summer and with the storms and bad weather.
