Ambassador Themistoklis Demiris was confirmed as the new head of the National Intelligence Service by the Greek parliament's special standing committee on institutions and transparency in a closed session on Wednesday, Kathimerini reported.

He was approved thanks to the votes of deputies from the ruling New Democracy party in the committee, as all deputies from the opposition party voted against his appointment.

Demiris succeeds Panagiotis Kontoleon, who resigned in the wake of the wiretapping scandal.
