Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić nominated Ana Brnabić for another term as prime minister on Saturday, Reuters reported.

The nomination comes more than five months after the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SPP) won the most votes in national elections. The official announcement of the results was delayed due to voting irregularities in one polling station, which prevented the convening of Parliament.

Vučić, who leads the party and has significant influence on government policy, said he has "unlimited confidence" in Brnabic, 46, who became Serbia's first woman prime minister in 2020.

He also said that in 2024, two years before the end of the term of the new government, a major restructuring awaits him, but did not elaborate.

The ruling party has 120 seats in the 250-seat parliament and will have to look for partners to form a government. The Socialists and the List of Hungarians of Vojvodina, traditional partners of the SPP, have 31 and five deputies respectively.

Brnabic is expected to present a new cabinet and political program to parliament in the coming weeks. One of its main tasks on the world stage will be to balance Serbia's desire to join the European Union, its largest trading partner, with pressure to maintain ties with Russia and China.
