A few days ago, an article by political analyst, editor-in-chief of the California Courier periodical Harut Sassounian was published, where the author addresses the circumstances of the prominent genocide scholar Vahakn Dadrian's funeral in Armenia, and the despicable attitude towards the scholar's memory. Lilit Galstyan, an opposition MP and a member of the opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party of the Republic of Armenia (RA), wrote about this on Facebook.
"Actually, in 2019, by the Government's decision, a state commission was set up to transfer (…) Dadrian's body to Armenia and bury it here.
After the burial in the [Yerevan] central cemetery, the scholar's grave is in abandonment and neglect. It was even impossible to find the grave due to the absence of a tombstone and memorial plaque.
Naturally, such a criminal attitude is a blow to the memory of an outstanding scholar, to the academic and cultural world, and to Armenia-Diaspora relations.
I have written a letter to the ESCS [(Education, Science, Culture and Sports)] minister of RA minister, V. Dumanyan, hoping that steps will be taken to bring the culprits to justice and rectify the situation," Galstyan added, in particular.
