The Resistance Movement's Defense and Security Committee convened an expanded session today with the participation of National Assembly members, former high-ranking military and law enforcement officials, and military experts.
The draft law on "Amendments and Addenda to the Law on Military Service and the Status of Servicemen," which was submitted to the Armenian MOD and submitted for public debate, was discussed at the meeting, NEWS.am was informed at the press service of the "Armenia" bloc.
At the same time it was stated that the provision on exemption from compulsory military service for money is inadmissible.
The participants of the discussion confirmed that in the absence of a unified concept of reforming the RA Armed Forces, such uncoordinated actions once again prove that since 2018, having come to power, this political force consistently pursues the goal of disorganizing the Armed Forces - the main guarantor of the RA security,
After the 44-day war, the demilitarization of Artsakh's defense system continues, and the process has touched the RA Armed Forces as well. All this is done against the background of recurrent statements of the head of the hostile country about the weakening of the Armenian army and the exclusion of opportunities for development.
This initiative presented by the authorities is another step in the liquidation of the Armenian Armed Forces.
During the discussions it was noted that this draft contains unconstitutional elements and will not strengthen the defense system, but will deepen the intolerance in the society, making the service not an honorable and obligatory step, and will form a group of "privileged" people, who will get rid of their constitutional duty for paying off 24m AMD.
It was decided to continue the discussion of the issue at different platforms, and in order to form a final and unified position in the coming days on the initiative of the Defense and Security Committee a public discussion will be organized with the participation of a wide range of people, which will be announced later.
By the way, the participants of the discussion also expressed their concern about the constitutionality of the ban on membership in professional unions and religious organizations, established for certain types of public service, assessing it as part of the authorities' policy of disintegration of the security systems.
