In the previous days, separate media outlets, citing a misinformation published on the armlur.am website on August 25, were writing that A. Sardaryan, who was accused of committing high treason in a criminal proceeding in court, was acquitted by the court's decision. Gor Abrahamyan, Advisor to the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia (RA), wrote about this on Facebook Tuesday morning.
"(...) I consider it necessary to note that this information does not correspond to reality.
On February 10, 2022, A. Sardaryan was involved as an accused in the criminal proceedings—under Article 299, Section 1 (high treason) of the RA former Criminal Code—investigated at the RA NSS [(National Security Service)] Investigation Department.
On June 10, 2022, the charge against A. Sardaryan was commuted and he was charged again under Article 365, Section 2 (violating the rules of military duty or combat service, which has caused serious consequences) of the RA former Criminal Code.
On June 30, 2022, the court, considering the matter of commuting the pretrial detention chosen for the accused A. Sardaryan, decided to leave the applied pretrial detention unchanged, and the defense's motion to apply bail was denied. In other words, the judicial investigation in this criminal proceeding continues, and A. Sardaryan is arrested.
Let me say more. No verdict of acquittal has been made in any proceedings regarding high treason sent to the court after the 2020 Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)] war," added the advisor of the Prosecutor General of Armenia.
