In Armenia, tens of thousands of people are persecuted for political reasons, in particular, the citizens involved in protests against the actions of the authorities, lawyer Aleksandr Kochubaev told journalists.
The repressive policy in Armenia, according to his assessment, is at a dangerously high level.
"The authorities show that they will display this attitude with regard to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly," Kochubaev noted.
He recalled that numerous independent or opposition media outlets are also being persecuted.
"The NSC of Armenia has been instructed to look into adding legal scholars to the Supreme Judicial Council. This shows that the regime seeks total control over the judiciary. In general, if something goes against the interests of the authorities, normal judicial proceedings are impossible. About 20 judges all over the country prevent the final death of the free judicial system," added the lawyer.
He is convinced that Armenia is on its way to a dictatorship. "And all this is happening with the connivance of the collective West," Kochubaev concluded.
