The US State Department has approved a $1.1 billion arms deal with Taiwan, The Epoch Times reports.

This will be Taiwan's largest defense deal under President Joe Biden, the portal writes, expressing doubt that the US will be able to deliver weapons to the island due to Chinese activity.

The Guardian noted that the package includes $355 million worth of Harpoon anti-ship missiles and $85 million of Sidewinder aircraft-guided missiles.

The main amount of funds - $ 655 million - is intended for the creation and support of the Taiwanese air defense system, including missile launch warning systems.

The State Department says Taiwan needs the weapons to maintain sufficient self-defense capability and the deal is in line with the US One China policy.
