Turkey is provoking tension and undermining regional security and stability, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said this at a meeting with French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna in Athens, Kathimerini reports.

Mitsotakis informed Colonna of Turkey's recent aggressive rhetoric against Greek sovereignty.

He also mentioned the significant potential that Greece represents as a strategic energy hub for EU energy security. The Prime Minister also briefed the French minister on the measures taken by the government to combat the energy crisis, reiterating his conviction that this broad challenge requires a coordinated response from Europe.

The sides also discussed recent developments in Ukraine.

Colonna noted that Paris will continue to support Athens when it comes to Greek sovereignty, saying that this position "will not change."

As part of the visit, Colonna also met with her Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias. The Greek minister, referring to Turkey's latest threats against Greece, noted that Turkey wants to "turn back time and revive the Ottoman Empire."

"We are speaking in simple terms. Turkey's statements and actions are unacceptable. We are not afraid. We have faced much more serious threats in our history. We reject neo-Ottoman persecution. We will not pay attention to this nonsense," he said.

Before her visit to Athens, the French foreign minister visited Ankara. During her visit, she also met with her Turkish counterpart and urged him to avoid escalation against Greece, both in word and deed.

As NEWS.am reported earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has in the past few days repeatedly voiced threats against Greece and has not even ruled out an attack on the EU and NATO member state. Today Erdogan warned Greece of a possible strike at any moment. "I think that from now on Athens will analyze future steps in relations with Turkey. Otherwise, as I said before, there could be a strike at any moment," Erdogan said.
