Turkey will pay in rubles 25% of natural gas purchased from Russia, Reuters and Bloomberg reported, citing Gazprom.

The rest of the gas payment will be made in euros and dollars, BloombergHT reported. The portion paid in rubles will be increased over time.

Turkey buys up to half of the natural gas it needs from Russia. It also receives natural gas through pipelines from Iran and Azerbaijan and has increased purchases of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from suppliers in the United States.

Erdogan announced Turkey's plans to pay for Russian gas in rubles after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi early last month. He gave no other details.

In late December, Gazprom and the Turkish state pipeline company BOTAS signed another contract for the supply of natural gas. The four-year agreement provides for the supply of 5.75 billion cubic meters of gas through the Turkish Stream gas pipeline.
