Doctors are concerned about the health of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II. According to Buckingham Palace, the queen is under medical observation at Balmoral.

After further assessment this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned about Her Majesty's health and have recommended that she remain under medical observation. The Queen remains comfortable and will remain at Balmoral, said a Buckingham Palace spokesman.

For her part, Prime Minister Liz Truss said the entire country was deeply concerned about the news from Buckingham Palace.

As Elizabeth's health deteriorated, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall arrived in Balmorah. The Duke of Cambridge (William) is also headed to Balmoral.

Buckingham Palace said the queen postponed an online meeting of the Privy Council after doctors advised her to rest. The palace said the 96-year-old monarch had taken the advice of doctors.

Earlier, in a break with tradition, she met with outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his successor, Liz Truss, in Balmoral, Aberdeenshire.

The queen has been suffering from mobility problems of late.

Elizabeth was to convene the Privy Council virtually on Wednesday night, during which Truss would be sworn in as first Lord of the Exchequer and her new cabinet ministers would be sworn in.

The Privy Council is an official body, mostly composed of high-ranking politicians, which advises the queen.

During her 70-year reign, the queen usually held an audience with the new prime minister at Buckingham Palace.
