Britain's King Charles III held his first audience as monarch with Prime Minister Liz Truss, the Press Association reported.

"The King has held the first of his weekly audiences with Prime Minister Liz Truss at Buckingham Palace," the official report said.

On the morning of Sept. 9, Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla Parker Bowles left Balmoral Castle. In the afternoon, Britain's new king arrived in London. Upon his arrival, he greeted the cheering crowds that had gathered outside the palace. Some of them sang "God Save the King." On his first day in office, he will address the nation mourning the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
