French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed readiness for a dialogue with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev amid the escalation of the situation on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the French Foreign Ministry said.

He has already discussed the current situation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

"President Macron is ready to hold an exchange of views with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev," the French Foreign Ministry noted.

The ministry said Paris supports a cease-fire and calls on Azerbaijan to respect Armenia's territorial integrity. The French Foreign Ministry did not specify whether to expect contact between Macron and Aliyev in the near future.
