Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, at a CSTO meeting on the situation on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, called on the sides to abandon force and begin negotiations, the press service of the Kazakh leader reported.

According to the press service, Tokayev on Tuesday participated in an extraordinary session of the CSTO Collective Security Council. The event was held by videoconference at the suggestion of Armenia. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda, State Secretary of Belarusian Security Council Alexander Volfovich and Deputy Secretary General of CSTO Valery Semerikov also took part in the summit. Pashinyan was briefed on the events on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.

"Speaking to the participants of the session, the president of Kazakhstan stressed the need to resolve the conflict exclusively by political and diplomatic means. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev urged to take all possible measures to stabilize the situation, abandon the use of force and immediately start negotiations," the report says.
