Russian and Turkish Presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan will discuss the recent fighting on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan during a meeting on the margins of the SCO summit in Samarkand, Reuters reported, citing a Turkish official.

"This issue will be discussed with Putin. Because the role played by Russia and Turkey in ending this war and the joint work that followed are obvious," the official said on condition of anonymity. "Turkey has started contacts to overcome the problem between the two countries. This needs to end before it grows further."

Erdogan and Putin are scheduled to meet on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Uzbekistan on Friday.

"Turkey will continue to stand by Azerbaijan in every sense," the official added.
