At least seven people died and ten others were injured in a highway accident in the Mexican state of Michoacán, regional police said.

"A coordinated operation is underway after several private cars and trucks collided on the Siglo XXI highway, on the 108th kilometer of the Taretan-Santa Casilda stretch of road. According to preliminary information, seven people were killed and 10 were injured," the police said in a Twitter post.

According to local media, the culprit of the accident was one of the three affected trucks, which drove into the oncoming lane with excessive speed and collided with other cars.
