YEREVAN. – Speaker of the Republic of Armenia National Assembly (RA NA), Alen Simonyan, on Thursday received a delegation led by chairman Alexander Belsky of the Legislative Assembly of Saint Petersburg, Russia, the NA informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.
At the meeting, details on the violation of ceasefire by the armed forces of Azerbaijan since Tuesday, the Armenian casualties and the shelling of the Armenian positions were discussed. The agreement for ceasefire was touched upon, the interlocutors expressed hope that it will be lasting.
“The military-political leadership of Azerbaijan tries to reach its maximalist goals and ignores the efforts of the Armenian side for the establishment of peace in the region,” Simonyan noted, reminding Belsky that the Armenian authorities addressed to the international community, presenting the current situation.
Simonyan added that he calls on his international colleagues and allies for distinctly and targeted responding to the maximum to the actions of Azerbaijan, and take effective steps for supporting the efforts of Armenia, in the future to prevent such actions.
During the meeting issues on the Armenian-Russian parliamentary cooperation were also discussed. The Russian colleague presented the agenda of the meetings during the visit to Armenia, noting that a Memorandum of Understanding between the Council of Elders of Yerevan and the Legislative Assembly of Saint Petersburg was signed, which would give an opportunity to outline new vectors for effective and constructive cooperation.
