The Security Council should call on Azerbaijan to peacefully engage in the negotiation process, particularly on issues related to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, including the question of status, Armenia's permanent representative to the UN, Mher Margaryan, said at the UNSC meeting.

He said that today's aggression is only a deliberate decision to walk away from the Karabakh negotiations and give preference to a military solution.

The large-scale military aggression in 2020 was conducted in the midst of a pandemic, and this crime of global proportions should be assessed as such.

The use of force, threats is the pattern of Azerbaijan's behavior in all conflicts. The claims that Azerbaijan abolished by force the collective rights of the Nagorno-Karabakh people and eliminated the very name of the land where Armenians live is an example of this. Armenia calls on the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities under the UN Charter for the maintenance of international peace and security.

Azerbaijan must fulfill its humanitarian obligations with respect to Armenian prisoners of war, as well as preserve cultural and religious monuments, and address the problem of anti-Armenian rhetoric, particularly among government officials and institutions.

The unprovoked aggression against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia must be condemned, and the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Azerbaijani armed forces from the territory of my country must be demanded.

We demand that in the future we refrain from any acts of aggression against the territorial integrity of Armenia and fully comply with international obligations, including the Helsinki Final Act and trilateral statements adopted at the highest level, stressed the Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN.
