France's ruling Republic on the March party, whose founder is President Emmanuel Macron, has changed its name to Renaissance, merging with the two parties. The decision to change the name and structure of the party was made the night before at a convention in Paris, reports Deutsche Welle.
Some 87% of voters at the congress voted for changing the name and status of the party.
The party cites as its goals maximum employment as well as the fight against climate change, which, according to some, requires a radical approach.
Second place in the French National Assembly went to the left-wing New People's Environmental and Social Union bloc led by Jean-Luc Melenchon, which received 131 seats in the lower house of Parliament.
Marine Le Pen's Rassemblement Nationale party won 89 seats, while the Rassemblement Republicane party received 61 seats.
Despite the victory of the ruling coalition, experts called the outcome of the French elections a heavy blow for Emmanuel Macron, and analysts wrote about the fatigue and frustration of the French establishment.
