Georgian police on Sunday prevented Armenians from carrying out a protest in the capital Tbilisi, reports the Armenian Community of Georgia organization.

The respective statement by this organization reads as follows, in particular: "A few days ago, an initiative was disseminated on social media, which called on [Georgian] Armenians to unite for the sake of Armenia and raise the voice of protest, which was openly supported by our organization, whose members—in order to avoid provocations—decided to accompany that march [in Tbilisi]. It (…) was supposed to end in front of the Azerbaijani embassy.

The march was attended by a relatively large number of policemen, who had formed a human wall Metekhi Bridge. After a long argument with the police, it became clear that the police have an order not to let the participants of the march continue the march toward the Azerbaijani embassy."

Subsequently, five members of the Armenian Community of Georgia organization and another participant of this march were detained.

The other members of the organization marched, as a group, toward the Georgian parliament building.

The demonstration continued there until the participants learned that the five detained Armenian Community of Georgia organization members had been released.
