At the moment, the Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia has information on 16 Armenian servicemen who are in captivity in Azerbaijan. Ombudswoman Kristinne Grigoryan announced this during Monday’s Facebook press conference of the RFE/RL Armenian Service.
"Since the 13th of the month, various people, parents have contacted us, recognizing their relatives through various videos. But these numbers can change very quickly based on new videos, new evidence. These numbers may also decrease if, for example, unfortunately, these persons appear on the lists of fallen servicemen, or the bodies are transferred," said Grigoryan.
According to her, no one can have confidence or assumption that the life and living conditions of Armenian prisoners of war in Azerbaijan are ensured.
"It is sad to record that the international pressure on that state to respect its international obligations was not enough to prevent it from continuing in the same way. Of course, that reaction is not enough, but we should not get tired of working in that direction," added the ombudsperson of Armenia.
