Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan presented OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid details of the latest aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of Armenia.

He noted that it was accompanied by deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, atrocities and torture against Armenian soldiers and prisoners of war.

Mirzoyan noted that the aggression carried out by Azerbaijan grossly violates the fundamental provisions of international humanitarian law, the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act. Ararat Mirzoyan strongly condemned Azerbaijan's behavior to achieve its idealistic aspirations through force, especially stressing the importance of a clear and purposeful response of the international community, including the OSCE, to Azerbaijan's aggression and the need to urgently engage relevant mechanisms within the organization.

In the context of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict the role of the OSCE Minsk Group in the settlement of the conflict was stressed.

Mirzoyan touched upon the humanitarian problems caused by the 44-day war, stressing the need for the immediate return of Armenian prisoners of war and other detainees.

Programs for cooperation with Armenia within the OSCE were also discussed.
