Armenia is grateful to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for calling things by their proper names and supporting her during this difficult time, Vice Speaker Ruben Rubinyan said during an interview with Public Television today.
"The only way to stop the aggressor is to directly condemn him. We must continue our work with all partners to strengthen our positions and security. Armenia is working with all its partners to protect its sovereignty. Armenia is going the way of defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity by all available methods," Rubinyan assured.
Referring to the Turkish vice president's statement that Nancy Pelosi's statements in Armenia were not constructive, Rubinyan noted that some of Turkey's statements are not conducive to regional peace in this fragile situation. "I hope we will hear other statements from Turkey."
Rubin Rubinyan denied that Nancy Pelosi's visit to Armenia contained anti-Iranian elements. "In the current situation, Iran is one of the states supporting Armenia's positions on sovereignty and territorial integrity. Obviously, the interests of Armenia and Iran coincide. And it is obvious that Mrs. Pelosi's visit did not and could not have any context directed against Iran. It wouldn't be in our interests in the first place," he said.
On September 17, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi paid a two-day visit to Armenia. She met with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan, Defense Minister Suren Papikyan and other high-ranking officials, members of the political public and opposition lawmakers.
Pelosi visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial and gave a speech at the Cafesjian Art Center.
