Chinese President Xi Jinping urged the Chinese military to focus on preparing for military action, he made the call at a conference on national defense and military reform in Beijing, TASS reported.
"It is necessary to conscientiously summarize and apply successful reform experiences, to master the new situation and [understand] the requirements of the tasks, to focus on preparing for wars, and to have the courage to explore and innovate," Xinhua news agency quoted the Chinese leader as saying.
The conference was attended by high-ranking representatives of China's Central Military Council (CMC), People's Armed Militia and military academies.
The PRC Central Military Council directs the People's Liberation Army of China and the People's Armed Militia. Xi Jinping has been the chairman of the CMC since 2013.
