Iran is against changing internationally recognized borders, Ebrahim Azizi, deputy chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian parliament, said at a meeting with Gevorg Papoyan, head of the Iran-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group in Tehran, Mehr reports.

He noted that Iran and Armenia have great opportunities and potential to strengthen bilateral relations. According to him, the conflict between Yerevan and Baku is of concern to Iranian officials. "Iran calls on the two conflicting sides to show restraint to rule out the use of force and coercion to smooth over differences, negotiations should be a fundamental necessity to restore peace and security in the region," Azizi noted. Emphasizing that regional problems should be solved by the countries of the region themselves, he stressed that extra-regional countries should not be allowed into the region under the pretext of solving the problem.

Papoyan noted that Armenia views Iran as a very powerful and important country in the region, and extra-regional countries cannot tarnish the friendly and long-standing ties between the two countries.
