The ambassadors of the European Union have agreed on the non-recognition of Russian passports issued in the territories outside the control of the authorities of Ukraine and Georgia, TASS reported.

It is noted that the EU ambassadors have agreed on a mandate for negotiations with the European Parliament on the decision on the inadmissibility of Russian travel documents issued in Ukraine and Georgia. These passports will not be accepted as travel documents for obtaining a visa or crossing Schengen borders.

Earlier, the head of the European diplomacy Josep Borrell called the new Russian legislation on a simplified procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship for Ukrainians a violation of sovereignty and said that the EU would not recognize such passports.

At the end of August, following an informal meeting of the EU foreign ministers, he said that the EU would not recognize passports issued in the Russian-controlled territories of Ukraine.
