Russian President Vladimir Putin, who will arrive in Astana to participate in the summits of CIS heads of state and a meeting on cooperation and confidence-building measures in Asia, will hold talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on October 13, the presidential aide for international affairs Yuri Ushakov said.

"A meeting with Azerbaijani President Aliyev is planned," he told reporters, RIA Novosti reported.

Ushakov noted that the leaders last met on October 7 in St. Petersburg during an informal CIS summit, but agreed to hold a more detailed meeting in Astana. According to him, the relations between the countries are developing in a constructive way. Not only bilateral cooperation, but also Armenian-Azerbaijani relations will be discussed during the talks, the Kremlin representative added. He stressed that Russia "actively and fully promotes the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Ushakov also said that Russia is one of the main foreign economic partners of Azerbaijan. In 2021 the trade turnover between the two countries increased by 16.1% up to $3.4 billion, in January-August this year the volume of trade amounted to $2.2 billion, which is 11.5% more than in 2021. More than 900 joint ventures operate in Azerbaijan, the volume of Russian investments in the country's economy is about $4.5 billion.
