YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes: As it is known, the ambassadors of the European Union [(EU)] have agreed to send a civilian mission to Armenia, which shall be stationed along the border with Azerbaijan in order to build trust and contribute to [border] delimitation (…).

Let's stress: the members of the civilian mission cannot cross the [Azerbaijani] border themselves and must remain stationed, conduct observations only in that place. Suppose, in our case, the members of the mission cannot cross into Azerbaijan, as they can be subjected to aggression or captured—like the RA citizens. They are not armed, therefore they cannot have influence in that regard, and their mission is only intermediary.

The fact that the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, said that he will work with the mission as far as it relates to Azerbaijan, will not interfere with the work, as, one way or another, they will be stationed right on the RA border. From morning to evening, they must conduct monitoring, if there are violations, record them, nothing more.

It is a very important question where these observers should stand. Armenia should demand that they be stationed in the [RA] territories that existed before May 12, 2021, when Azerbaijani troops entered the sovereign RA.
