Iran is against any foreign military presence in the Caucasus region under any pretext, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said at a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev.
According to the press service of the President of Iran, Raisi noted the need to respect the territorial integrity of Armenia and Azerbaijan, stressing that Iran is against any change of historical and geopolitical boundaries of the region and the transit status of Iran and Armenia.
The Islamic Republic of Iran was the first country "to welcome the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh," Raisi added that Iran is ready to use its great potential for settling differences between Yerevan and Baku.
In turn, Aliyev briefed the IRI president on regional developments and the latest status of multilateral talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia, including meetings in Prague. He also stressed the need to observe and respect the international borders of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
