SpaceX cannot indefinitely fund the Starlink Internet service in Ukraine and send several thousand more terminals, company CEO Elon Max said after CNN reported that the company had asked the Pentagon to pay its bills.

SpaceX is not asking for reimbursement for past costs, but neither can it indefinitely fund an existing system and send a few thousand more terminals that use 100 times more data than regular households. It's unreasonable, Musk tweeted.

He noted that Starlink spends nearly $20 million a month, to support satellite services in Ukraine. Recently, SpaceX spent about $80 million to launch and support Starlink in Ukraine.

CNN reported Thursday that SpaceX sent a letter to the Pentagon last month saying it could not continue to fund Starlink service in Ukraine and might have to stop funding it unless the U.S. military provided funding.

Musk activated Starlink in Ukraine in late February. Since then, SpaceX has provided the company with thousands of terminals.
