Sweden and the U.S. have reached a new agreement under which the U.S. side will secure Sweden's borders during the country's accession to NATO, SVT television reported.

General James McConville, chief of staff of the U.S. Army (Ground Forces), noted that cooperation between the two countries has never been more important. He assured that the United States is fully prepared to defend Sweden.

The agreement, he said, provides greater opportunities for joint military operations during Sweden's uncertain and challenging period in many respects of applying for NATO membership.

Being a good friend of the U.S. is a good thing when it comes to war, said Swedish Army Commander Karl Engelbrektson, commenting on the signing of the agreement.

According to McConville, the two countries have a strong partnership.
