International organizations, particularly the UN, need to be reformed, Pope Francis noted in his book, La Stampa newspaper reported.

According to him, when it comes to peace and security at a global level, the first organization that is associated with this is the United Nations and, in particular, its Security Council.

The pontiff noted that the crisis in Ukraine once again demonstrated how important it is to find more flexible and effective ways to resolve conflicts in the current multilateral structure.

The Pope said that today's world is no longer the same as it was when the UN was created on the basis of the Charter, designed to give shape to the rejection of the horrors experienced by humanity in the two wars of the 20th century.

According to the pontiff, today it is necessary to rethink these institutions so that they correspond to the new existing reality.
