At least four inmates were killed and 61 injured in a fire that broke out on Sunday night at Evin Prison in Iran's capital, IRNA reported.
The dead inmates had suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning, it said. Ten of the victims required hospitalization, four of them are in serious condition.
Earlier the agency reported that at least eight people were injured because of the fire which broke out on the territory of Evin prison.
The fire broke out in the sewing workshop of the prison following a conflict between several inmates serving sentences for money laundering and theft, which sparked a riot. Local authorities noted that a riot by prisoners was out of the question and the situation was under control. They also stated that the incident was not related to the recent unrest in the country.
