Azerbaijan says no such thing, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said at a joint press conference with Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt in Yerevan on Tuesday, commenting on Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu's statement that Azerbaijan rightly demands that the Lachin and Zangezur corridors have the same status.
"I will not hide it, during the negotiations the representatives of Azerbaijan neither claim nor propose to have a road identical to the Lachin corridor. If Mr. Cavusoglu introduces this component into the negotiations, it would be good if he spoke on his own behalf. I repeat, Azerbaijan does not say such things. It cannot, because the regulations are defined by the statement of November 9, and then by the statement of January 11, 2021. There is the Lachin corridor, which is the way of life for the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, and the unblocking of economic infrastructures. In this context, they talk about a new connection between Azerbaijan and Nakhijevan. In this regard, our position has not changed - all roads must function under the sovereignty of the countries through which they pass.
According to my subjective perception, there is some progress in this regard, and I am optimistic that the negotiations in this direction can be successfully completed in the near future," Mirzoyan said.
