The garden and jungle metaphor stems from a completely unacceptable colonial mentality that gives the West the right to invade and occupy. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said this, commenting on the scandalous statement by Josep Borrell, head of the EU dimlopathy, that Europe is a "garden" and the rest of the world a "jungle."

"The garden/jungle metaphor arises from an utterly unacceptable colonial mentality which gives the West a right to invade & occupy. That era has long gone. Multipolarity is on the doorstep. EU needs to adopt the realities, otherwise it will continue to decline & fade," Nasser Kanaani wrote on Twitter.

In a controversial speech to future diplomats at the opening of the European Diplomatic Academy in Bruges last week, Borrell said that Europe is a garden, they built a garden. Most of the rest of the world is a jungle, and the jungle can invade the garden. Borrell noted that instead of building a wall, diplomats should go into the jungle.

Borrell later tried to justify himself by insisting that his message was racist or colonialist. He assured that he intended to reject the idea of a fortress Europe and to encourage students to engage with the world.
