Military expert Karen Vrtanesyan can see the possibility of small-scale military operations and even a large-scale war. He tald about it NEWS.am.

According to him, Azerbaijan partially restrains the Russian presence in Armenia, but the more problems Russia has in Ukraine, the less attention Moscow will pay to Armenia.

He noted that the U.S. has repeatedly said it is not ready to ensure Armenia's security, so the network, which in Armenia is constantly talking about it, serves only Turkish interests.

"But in general, Azerbaijan doesn't care about all the agreements. They start making agreements only to stall for time, for example, after taking some combat position, and then they go on a new offensive. That's what happened all the time after the 44-day war. The same thing happened with the attack on Jermuk," Vrtanesyan stressed.

Both human and territorial losses of the Armenian side during Azerbaijan's September aggression, according to the expert's assessment, were three times higher than the losses suffered in April 2016.

"Immediately after the 44-day war, I said that this is the beginning of a new war or a new stage of the same, unfinished war. Azerbaijan won't stop until it is resisted with dignity and dealt serious blows. Azerbaijan does not need negotiations at the moment, it has already penetrated the territory of Armenia and is moving forward. Let me remind that important territories, heights, such as the Goris-Kapan road leading to Iran, were surrendered as a result of, as the authorities say, "verbal understanding," Vrtanesyan stressed.

In order to change the situation through diplomacy the expert urged to first enhance economic, military and political potential.

"For this purpose, there is no need to set allies against themselves. International experience shows that even peacekeeping forces cannot protect one side from the other if the former cannot protect itself. How will the EU civilian mission stop Azerbaijan in this case? They will be evacuated from there at the first shelling. This could be one mechanism, but not the only one.

As a result of Armenia's diplomatic work after the fighting in April 2016, Aliyev admitted that pressure was put on him that Artsakh could not be part of Azerbaijan. And now all we see are social media posts that Baku is using to its advantage," he added.
