Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defense and Security Andranik Kocharyan, as well as members of the above mentioned committees met with a delegation of congressmen headed by Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Democratic Partnership Committee David Price.

The press service of the National Assembly informed NEWS.am that during the meeting, security issues, the post-war situation, as well as the negotiation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan were presented in detail. It was noted that Azerbaijan's actions are a serious challenge to efforts to ensure security and stability in the region. The immediate repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians detained in Azerbaijan was considered a priority issue. Expressing gratitude to the American side for its efforts to return the prisoners, Eduard Aghajanyan noted, however, that Azerbaijan continues to hold more than 30 Armenian prisoners of war hostage. The chairman of the commission expressed hope that the U.S. efforts in this issue will be continuous. Touching upon the rights of the Karabakh people, Eduard Aghajanyan stressed in particular: "Today Karabakh faces the danger of ethnic cleansing and if we fail together with the international community to provide minimal guarantees of security along with the protection of its rights, ethnic cleansing will become a fact," the head of the commission said. According to the deputy, no part of Armenia's sovereign territory, as well as Armenian democracy, is subject to any negotiations. 

"Armenia, in these two main directions, needs political and diplomatic support," Aghajanian said, condemning the invasion of Azerbaijani armed forces into the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia. In turn, Armen Rustamyan, a member of the parliamentary standing committee on foreign relations and a deputy from the opposition "Armenia" bloc, stressed the importance of adhering to international standards and restoring the balance of power to establish a stable and irreversible peace in the region. According to a representative of the opposition bloc, at present the balance of forces is broken in favor of the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem. Member of the parliamentary standing committee on foreign relations, opposition MP Hayk Mamijanyan estimates that the right to self-determination is, in fact, the right of the Karabakh people to survive.

The oppositionist expressed the opinion that comprehensive negotiations including the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and Armenia-Azerbaijan relations are necessary.  David Price stressed that the U.S. has a common reaction and a common attitude towards the events that took place: videos with torture and shootings, as well as inhumane treatment. The U.S. participates in the processes aimed at the release of prisoners. They are against the invasion of the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and have repeatedly called on Azerbaijanis to leave the territory of Armenia. He reaffirmed the readiness of the US House of Representatives to assist Armenia in the current situation. At the meeting the cooperation of the legislative bodies at different parliamentary platforms was highlighted.
