EU countries agreed to impose sanctions on eight people and organizations for the use of Iranian-made drones in Russian strikes on Ukraine, Reuters reported.

Sanctions experts agreed on the list at a meeting Wednesday. It will be presented to national ambassadors at a meeting scheduled for this afternoon.

EU governments have until Thursday morning to decide whether to approve the sanctions. The goal is to agree on the package before leaders meet in Brussels for a summit that begins later that day.

A European Commission spokesman said there was broad political agreement at Monday's meeting of foreign ministers in Luxembourg that the EU must respond quickly. "Now that we have gathered our own sufficient evidence, work is ongoing in the Council with view to a clear, swift and firm response," he said.
