An enlarged Academic Council meeting was held at the Armenian State Pedagogical University. One issue on the agenda was the merger of the Yerevan State University of Languages and Social Sciences after Brusov, the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports with the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Abovyan, a message circulated by the ASPU stated.

"The meeting was also attended by Deputy Ministers of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan and Karen Trchunyan. The latter first of all assured that the heads of higher educational institutions have been informed about the idea of unification of universities, and the draft decision was put into circulation on October 7. According to the deputy minister, the purpose of the reforms to unite universities is to have universities with a specific focus. Pedagogical University should become the basis of the newly created university with pedagogical orientation.

Deputy Ministers assured that they are ready to listen to the proposals, opinions, concerns, approaches and justifications of all higher educational institutions.

At a meeting of the Academic Council decision was taken, according to which the university is ready to support the process of unification of universities, to participate directly in this process by means of proposals and substantiations, for the benefit of development of pedagogical higher education," the statement says.

The Armenian Cabinet of Ministers has come up with a new initiative, according to which Yerevan State University of Languages and Social Sciences after Brusov, Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports will unite with the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Abovyan.
